【9/5〜9/11 英国視察のご報告】
KEIO 2020 project メンバー14名と体育研究所の教職員3名は、9月5日より11日まで7日間の英国視察へ行ってきました。視察では、2020年に英国オリンピック・パラリンピック選手団を受け入れるにあたり、１）英国の文化について、２）スポーツ・バリアフリーについて、３）2012年ロンドンオリンピックを成功に導いたイギリスのボランティアについて、４）BOA (British Olympic Association)・BPA (British Paralympic Association)について、５）大会後のレガシーについて、学び・理解を深めることを目的として掲げました。英国滞在中は、”する”、”観る”、”支える”の視点にも着目し、ケンブリッジ大学訪問やサッカー観戦、ロンドン市内観光を行いました。行く先々で日本にはない英国の良い所を発見し、様々な人と接する中で文化や国民性の違いを感じ、多くの学びを得ることができました。今回は2020年の事前キャンプ受け入れに直接関係する内容について一番学ぶことのできたQueen Elizabeth Park（オリンピックパーク） 訪問についてご報告します。
Queen Elizabeth Park は2012年ロンドンオリンピック・パラリンピックの際に競技場として建てられ、今もなお市民の住宅や憩いの場として利用されている場所です。周辺には新興住宅地が存在し、若い世代の家族が多く暮らしています。実際にQueen Elizabeth Park にあるプールやサイクリングバンク、体育館などを訪れ、若い世代から高齢者まで地域の人々がそれらの施設を活用している様子が見られました。施設はバリアフリーになっているため、障がいのある方々が利用している場面が見られました。これは建物としての有形レガシーが障がい者理解や地域活性化などの無形のレガシーに発展した結果であることを肌で感じることができました。また、Queen Elizabeth Parkを案内していただいたBOA・BPAの方々から施設やレガシー、BOA・BPAの働きや、2012年のロンドンオリンピック・パラリンピックでの経験などについてお話を伺い、選手を受け入れる際に何を大切にすれば良いのか、どのような準備が必要なのか、など私たちの活動に将来直接関係する内容まで学ぶことができました。
今回の英国視察を通して、私たちは多くの学びを得ることができました。また共に活動するメンバーの仲をより深めることもできました。今回経験できた全てを、今後のKEIO 2020 projectの活動で知識、熱意、そしてチームワークに変えて生かしていきたいと思います。今回の英国視察の実現を可能にし、実りのある経験にしてくださったBOA・BPA、英国三田会の方々、大学の先生方・職員の方含めた全ての方に感謝申し上げます。
【September 5th-11th UK Inspection】
From September 5th to 11th, the 11 members from KEIO 2020 project and 3 teachers visited the UK for the purpose of inspection. The main objectives were to 1) feel the British culture on a grass root level, 2) deepen knowledge about sports and barrier-free as to welcome the Team GB (British olympians and paralympians) in 2020. Our aim also included 3) learning the culture of volunteering that has led to the success of 2012 London Olympics, 4) learning about BOA (British Olympic Association) • BPA (British Paralympic Association), and 5) finding out the legacy after the games. Following our project motto – “to do, to see, to support” – we visited Cambridge University, watched the national football match, and did some sightseeing during our stay. Through these events, we were able to discover the “new” UK and also find out cultural differences between UK and Japan by intereacting with the local people. In this post, we would like to introduce our experience at the Queen Elizabeth Park, where we were able to gain information that directly relate to our hosting the Team GB in 2020.
Queen Elizabeth Park was built to be used as a stadium during the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics. It is still being used by the local people as a place for entertainment and relaxation. Many young families live in the new residential housing located around the park. We were able to see many, from young to elederly people, using facilities like the swimming pool, the velodrom, and sports complexes. All the facilities are installed with full barrier-free and we were able to see some disabled people utilizing those facilities. We believe that this is one example that illustrates the development of intangible legacy (understanding people with diability and revitalization) through tangible legacy (buildings and infrastructure). In addition, we were able to hear things on topics such as facilities in the park, the legacy, the BOA • BPA, and the lessons from 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics. The BOA • BPA also kindly gave us some advice regarding the future of our project, such as what we should value when hosting the team GB.
Throughout the inspection, we were able to gain a lot of new knowledge and new experience. In addition, we feel that the friendship and teamwork among the project members became stronger than before the inspection. By taking the advantage of inspection, we will try to fully utilize this precious opportunity as our new knowledge, and mutually enhance ourselves for a better project. Finally, we would like to appreciate all the people, especially the BOA • BPA, Eikoku Mitakai (Keio Alumni Association), and teachers/staffs at our university who have strongly committed to the realization of London Inpection.
