KEIO 2020 projectがロサンゼルス・タイムズ（アメリカ合衆国）に取り上げられました。7/20に公開された“For Japan’s Gen Z, anxiety-ridden pandemic Olympics mar a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ moment” (日本のZ世代にとって、「人生に一度」の経験をパンデミック中で不安尽くめのオリンピックによって台無しにされた) では、コロナ禍でのオリンピックに対する日本の若者の考えや現状について紹介されています。
慶應義塾大学で英国選手団の事前キャンプが行われることに決まった2016年以来、KEIO 2020 projectは日吉キャンパスで選手団を受け入れる準備を行ってきました。コロナ禍によって東京五輪が延期され、本来予定されていた事前キャンプサポートは行われないことになりましたが、制限下でできることを模索してきました。
記事ではコロナ禍によって若者が受けた影響が指摘されていますが、私たちの活動は、“Not all is laden with despair”（すべてが絶望に満ちているわけではない）と前置きがされた上で紹介されています。記事では、英国視察やバリアフリーマップの作成といった活動に加え、バブルゾーン外からの応援やキャンプ地の装飾等、実際の事前キャンプ時の取り組みについて紹介していただきました。また、代表の杉山佑さんに対するインタビューも掲載されています。

KEIO 2020 project was featured in the Los Angeles Times (USA), published on July 20. The article “For Japan’s Gen Z, anxiety-ridden pandemic Olympics mar a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ moment” discusses the Japanese youth’s thoughts on the Olympics and how they have been affected by the COVID-19.
Since 2016, when Keio University was chosen as the host for the British team’s Pre-Games camp, we have been preparing to welcome the team at Hiyoshi campus. Although the Tokyo Olympics were postponed due to COVID-19 and the support for the Pre-Games camp did not go as originally planned, we have been seeking what we can do under restrictions.
The article explores the impact of COVID-19 on young people, the article prefaces our introduction with, “[not] all is laden with despair.” In the article, in addition to our work such as our U.K. visit and creating a barrier-free map, our role during the actual Pre-Games camp such as supporting the athletes and decorating the camp site are mentioned as well. Additionally, the article includes an interview with Mr. Yu Sugiyama, the representative of our group.
